Mobile Communications - Japan Mobile Phone Shipments Fall in April

Mobile phone shipments in Japan experienced a year-on-year decrease of 4.6% in April, 2005, falling to 3.33 million units, announced JIETA. The main reason for this fall, was the fact that 2G mobile phone shipments decreased by 34.8% to 1.10 million units. However, shipments of 3G mobile phones increased by 23.3% to 2.19 million units. PHS (Personal Handy phone System) handset shipments also increased, growing by 37.7% to 45,000 units, due to the introduction of fixed prices for its services.
